I am a journalist and audio producer, currently covering the environment and education for the Oregon Capital Chronicle, part of the States Newsroom network.
I am from Minnesota and have worked in Colombia, Iceland, Qatar, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela and Antarctica. I've tipped boats as a sea kayaking guide in Alaska and sang with Ukrainian scientists at the last bar on earth during a stint working aboard a Norwegian cruise ship in the Antarctic Peninsula. I've written about post-conflict Colombia and forced displacement due to transnational development projects, Venezuela's faltering economy and the myth of the Icelandic banana. I've published stories with The Washington Post, Los Angeles Review of Books, VICE, MTV, Latin Correspondent, Roads & Kingdoms, Minnesota Public Radio, Minnesota Monthly, The Riveter and more. Prior to joining the Capital Chronicle, I was making radio documentaries with American Public Media focused on issues in education.
I go by Alexandra, Alejandra, Alex, Ale, Alexia, Alice and any other regional spins on the original.
